Ingredients
-
8 ounces elbow macaroni
-
2 cups smoked shredded chicken
-
2 cups milk, room temperature
-
1 cup heavy cream, room temperature
-
1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
-
1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded
-
1 tbsp nutmeg
-
2 tbsp Jalapeño Premium Steak Sauce
-
1 tbsp butter, unsalted
-
1 tbsp all-purpose flour
-
1 tsp salt
-
1/2 tsp black pepper
Directions
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8-10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter until bubbling, about 1 minute. Add the flour and whisk continuously for 1-2 minutes until it forms a paste (roux) that is lightly golden in color.
Slowly pour in the milk and cream, whisking constantly to prevent lumps. Cook for about 3-4 minutes, or until the mixture thickens slightly and is steaming but not boiling.
Stir in the cheddar cheese and Gruyère cheese, mixing until melted and smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Add the nutmeg, salt, and black pepper, stirring well to combine.
Add the cooked macaroni and smoked shredded chicken to the cheese sauce, mixing thoroughly to ensure everything is well-coated. Then stir in the Jalapeño Premium Steak Sauce for an extra kick of flavor.
Transfer the mac and cheese mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it evenly. If desired, sprinkle extra cheese on top for added gooeyness.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top. Allow to cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
